UW-L Cartwright Center Port O'Call
Municipal Government: Pro & Con, Creating a Position of La Crosse City Administrator. Dr. Karl Nollenberger, professor at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Ed Madere,City/County Manager Association's Range Rider Program, and Mayor Tom Kennedy from Beaver Dam will discuss the pros and cons of hiring a City Administrator.

Dr. Nollenberger seved 30 years in local government positions in city and county management in five states as well as in financial management in local government. He served as President of the International City/County Management Association. He is also a Fellow in the congressionally chartered National Academy of Public Administration. Ed Madere offers his professional expertise and experience through the Wisconsin City/County Manager Association's Range Rider Program. This program provides counsel, experienced perspectives and support to Wisconsin cities and counties' elected officials, staff and communitiy organizations. Beaver Dam Mayor Tom Kennedy has served as mayor for two terms, and will be seeking his third term in April.

Lunch, 11:30-12:00 is optional at the noon program at the Radisson. To make reservations for lunch, contact Nancy Hill at 608-386-6237 or nfhill@centurytel.net.by February 10. Cost for lunch is $12. There is no cost for the programs.

The programs are co-sponsored by the LWV, UW-L Political Science Department, the UW-L Joint Legislative Relations Committee and the La Crosse Tribune.

Wednesday, March 14, 2012 11:30 Radisson Hotel Reducing Environmental Regulations: Degradation of Natural Resources. The speaker is Elizabeth Wheeler,Staff Attorney for Clean Wisconsin. Elizabeth has expertise in water and air law and legislative analysis. She has extensive experience in bringing multiple stakeholders together to work toward a common goal She has a J.D. from Pace University School of Law. Elizabeth also serves on the Wisconsin LWV Legislative Committee.
Thursday, April 12, 2012 7:00 pm UW-L What's True and What's Not -- Political Rhetoric. Bill Adair will speak at an evening program held at UW-L. Mr. Adair is the Editor of PolitiFact and he is the Washington Bureau Chief for the Tampa Bay Times. He has worked in Washington since 1997 and has covered Congress, the White House, the Supreme Court, national politics and aviation safety.
Tuesday, May 8, 2012 11:30 Radisson Hotel Who Owns the Water?. Mark Schultz will speak to the topic of "Who Owns the Water?" Mark was chosen as the Tribune Person of the Year for his involvement with the Mississippi River and many other environmental issues relating to water and land use. He was a Community Development Agent for the UW Extension Service for 22 years. He has a unique confluence of knowledge of both the natural world and the political process. He currently is a Supervisor on the Onalaska Town Board.
