Keeping the Pressure on Fair Maps
Annemarie McClellan, Commissioner on the People’s Maps Commission representing the 3rd Congressional District

In his 2020 State of the State Address, Gov. Tony Evers promised to create "a nonpartisan redistricting commission, comprised of the people of our state—not elected officials, not lobbyists, and not political party officials—who will draw The People’s Maps." And as promised, The People's Maps Commission began a  series of hearings around the state this October.

Annemarie McClellan, a founding member of the League of Women Voters-Greater Chippewa Valley chapter and current co-president, is the representative of the 3rd Congressional District Commissioner on the People’s Maps Commission. Annemarie will provide background on the Commission, information about decisions the Commission will make and their methods of learning from the public. She will also discuss the scope of the commission's study and the process for final determination of the new redistricting maps.

LWVLA Launches a New Management System
new website top
We hope that you've had a chance to explore our new website, to complete your member login, and to take advantage of some of the added services offered by our new online presence.

But just as beauty is more than skin-deep, our website is more than its updated, modern appearance. Club Express, the association management system that hosts our website, was introduced as a media partner for The League of Women Voters this spring--chosen because of its reputation and array of integrated features. The LWVUS believes that the Club Express system can help state and local Leagues "run their operations and improve communications with members, prospective members, and the public."

A few of our members attended a virtual webinar about this new partnership during the League's National Convention and were impressed enough to do further research and visit with other Leagues who had adopted the system. In late July, our Executive Board approved a subscription to Club Express, and since then many of us have worked with their web designers to build the new website and to organize all the other features that will support and enhance our League's endeavors.

For a glimpse of all that Club Express offers, you can view a three-minute video about the LWV/Club Express partnership. We welcome your comments, questions, and recommendations--just click on the Contact Us button at the top of the homepage. And please let us know if you'd like assistance with your initial member login.

The People's Maps Commission
Holds Public Hearings on Redistricting

Members of the People’s Maps Commission have been hosting a series of public hearings across Wisconsin to hear directly from experts and the public on redistricting. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commission is conducting all hearings virtually, with at least one hearing for each of Wisconsin’s congressional districts.

The hearing for our congressional district was held on November 19. Five hearings are still scheduled for other districts in December and January.  Written public comments are also welcome at any time during the public hearing process.

Recordings of all of the hearings held so far are available for viewing on the commission's website.
