Through poetry, we aim to illuminate its beauty, its fragility, and its strength—especially at a time when we can no longer afford to take its core principles for granted.

11:30 am - 1 pm |  | Local news reporting plays a critical role in the health of our communities—and our democracy. What is the impact -- here and nationwide -- of declining news coverage on civil discourse and emerging hyper-partisanship in local non-partisan government? Rusty Cunningham will discuss changes in local news coverage and the impact on civic engagement, government accountability, erosion of community connections and increased political polarization. He will discuss strategies for the LWV to create and promote civil discourse and citizen engagement in local government.
The public is welcome to join us for lunch or at no cost to attend the 12:00 p.m. program only. Registration (below) offers options to reserve lunch or to only attend the program in-person. A recording of the program will be posted on our website shortly after the live event.
Lunches must be reserved and paid for by the end of the day Thursday, 10/2 . Pre-paid lunches are nonrefundable.
| Fair Maps Community Hearings

| Activists across the state are educating the public and looking for input on an Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) for drawing Wisconsin legislative voting districts in the future. Bill language for an IRC has been drafted and multiple nonpartisan organizations are working together to gather public feedback.
The Wisconsin Fair Maps Coalition and local leaders are included in a statewide Fair Maps Community Hearing Tour to shape the future of redistricting in Wisconsin.
