11:30 am - 1 pm | Local news reporting plays a critical role in the health of our communities—and our democracy. What is the impact -- here and nationwide -- of declining news coverage on civil discourse and emerging hyper-partisanship in local non-partisan government? Rusty Cunningham will discuss changes in local news coverage and the impact on civic engagement, government accountability, erosion of community connections and increased political polarization. He will discuss strategies for the LWV to create and promote civil discourse and citizen engagement in local government.

6-7 pm Virtual | LWVUS is joining No Kings 2 as a national partner on Saturday, October 18. LWVUS has decided to become an official partner for this day of mobilization to stand up against hate and authoritarianism.
The League has consistently and boldly spoken up in the face of rising authoritarianism. This is an opportunity to put words into action and show up in defense of democracy and as an effective ally. We encourage Leagues to lean in locally and participate in activations with partners on the ground in a nonpartisan manner. We understand that we cannot control how other partners show up, and participating in any event comes with some risk.
LWVWI is hosting a free Know Your Rights and Protest Safety Webinar on Wednesday, October 15th from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. This webinar will also include a virtual poster making website.

Noon - 2 pm | “NO KINGS” is more than just a slogan—it’s the foundation our nation was built upon. Born in the streets, carried by millions in chants and on posters, it echoes from city blocks to rural town squares, uniting people across this country to fight dictatorship together.
A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
This event meets ADA standards

October 27, 2025 | In The Art Thief, Michael Finkel brings us into Breitwieser’s strange and fascinating world. Unlike most thieves, Breitwieser never stole for money. Instead, he displayed all his treasures in a pair of secret rooms where he could admire them to his heart’s content. Possessed of a remarkable athleticism and an innate ability to circumvent practically any security system, Breitwieser managed to pull off a breathtaking number of audacious thefts. Yet these strange talents bred a growing disregard for risk and an addict’s need to score, leading Breitwieser to ignore his girlfriend’s pleas to stop—until one final act of hubris brought everything crashing down.

McCann crafts Apeirogon out of a universe of fictional and nonfictional material. He crosses centuries and continents, stitching together time, art, history, nature, and politics in a tale both heartbreaking and hopeful. Musical, cinematic, muscular, delicate, and soaring, Apeirogon is a novel for our time.
