This is an exciting year with three elections ahead! Mark your calendars and make a commitment to vote in every election this year. Your participation makes all the difference. Make sure your friends vote too!

What are the threats to the Upper Mississippi River, and how does research contribute to a healthy river system?
Learn how the UW La Crosse River Studies Center contributes scientific research to river management and how federal funding losses for Mississippi River study may impact its future.
The program will include the status of short and long-term research on the river, threats to that research, the role of the UW River Studies research vessel, and coordination with other agencies studying and protecting the river.
Lunches must be reserved and paid for by the end of the day Tuesday, March 31.
Pre-paid lunches are nonrefundable.

Join the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, Friends of the Refuge Mississippi River Pools 7&8, and local partners for an evening of conservation and conversation enabled through a FREE screening of the documentary film, THE FISH THIEF: A Great Lakes Mystery.
Narrated by Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons, THE FISH THIEF, is a captivating documentary that delves into the battle to protect the Great Lakes from the invasive sea lamprey. The film brings together breathtaking visuals and expert insights to tell the remarkable story of the dedicated scientists, policymakers, and conservations that came together to preserve the world’s largest freshwater ecosystem.
The screening will be April 8, 2026 - the linked Facebook post & attached flyer provide additional details and information. Free tickets can be reserved from the Weber Center (click here to reserve your seats) and are also available at the door. The reception (drinks and appetizers provided) will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Weber Center atrium. The screening will follow from 6:30-8, concluding with a panel discussion with the film's director, the GLFC Sea Lamprey Control Program Director and others. The USGS Upper Midwest Environmental Science Center featured in the documentary is located in Town of Campbell on French Island. Be proud of our local contributions to the environment.

Program Information: The Coulee Homeless and Housing Coalition and the League of Women Voters of the La Crosse Area are co-hosting a screening of Beyond the Bridge: A Solution to Homelessness. This special follow-up to the community screening held in October 2025 is a viewing-only event for the public.
Produced by A Bigger Vision Films, Beyond the Bridge: A Solution to Homelessness examines the systemic causes of homelessness across the United States and highlights evidence-based strategies that are proving effective. Through interviews with policy experts, service providers, and individuals with lived experience, the film challenges common misconceptions and explores comprehensive, community-driven responses to homelessness.
