July Book Club
July 31, 2023, 6:30 - 8:00 pm
In Person
July BC
The visionary author’s masterpiece pulls us—along with her Black female hero—through time to face the horrors of slavery and explore the impacts of racism, sexism, and white supremacy then and now.
Dana, a modern Black woman, is celebrating her 26th birthday with her new husband when she is snatched abruptly from her home in California and transported to the antebellum South. Rufus, the white son of a plantation owner, is drowning, and Dana has been summoned to save him. Dana is drawn back repeatedly through time to the slave quarters, and each time the stay grows longer, more arduous, and more dangerous until it is uncertain whether or not Dana’s life will end, long before it has a chance to begin.
The July Book Club will again gather in the meeting room of RiverPlace Apartments, located at 1 RiverPlace Dr., La Crosse, which is adjacent to International Friendship Gardens. Weather permitting, the group will meet outside on the adjoining deck. Participants should enter through the front entrance and press "18" on the entryway intercom. Parking is available in front of the building or in the International Friendship Gardens parking lot in back.
Although registration for this in-person meeting will not be required, participants are encouraged to register if they wish to receive an event reminder as well as any potential updates to meeting information.

Want to know more about Vote411?
infomercial
Vote411 is a website which provides candidates a place to respond to questions and allows voters the opportunity to learn more about the candidates running in races they care about. The success of the website depends on candidates participating in the process, so if you have a candidate you want to know more about and can't find information on them, call their campaigns and ask why they are not on Vote411.
One of the other really amazing things is that when you visit Vote411, you enter your home address and find out the races and candidates that are specific to your community. You see referendums, candidates and other great information you can use to feel prepared before election day.
Another great thing is that from the Vote411 website, you can be connected to the entity in your state that will help you get registered to vote and explain all you need to know. In Wisconsin, that link is to myvote.wi.gov.
