Members and interested friends are invited to get acquainted (or reacquainted) at the December Lunch & Learn as we prepare for a busy 2024 election year, and the Centennial Year Celebration of the League of Women Voters of the La Crosse Area.
We will review the innovations of Final Five Voting and explain the Ranked Choice election process. There will be a short video by Final Five advocate Katherine Gehl and a light-hearted opportunity to experience Final Five Voting yourself co-hosted by Lee Rasch of Leader Ethics.

We will provide an update on the current bipartisan bill in the Wisconsin legislature to create a top five primary and instant run-off election model for all U.S. House and Senate seats from Wisconsin.

Favorite Gnome Primary Election!

Final Five Voting describes a new election system consisting of an open primary election to selective top five candidates for the office followed by an instant-runoff general election to determine the majority winner.
Here's how Final Five Voting works:

-A single primary election is open to all candidates and all voters regardless of party.

-In the general election, voters use an instant run-off ballot to rank candidates in their order of preference.

Attendees at our December 13 Lunch & Learn will use the Final Five voting system to choose their favorite holiday gnome.

Polls close at 10 p.m. on Friday, December 8.

Over the last two decades, a fringe plan to call a convention under the Constitution's amendment mechanism—the nation's first ever—has inched through statehouses. Delegates, like those in Philadelphia two centuries ago, would exercise nearly unlimited authority to draft changes to our fundamental law, potentially altering anything from voting and free speech rights to regulatory and foreign policy powers. Such a watershed moment would present great danger, and for some, great power.

Feingold and Prindiville examine the grave risks inherent in this effort. Though many focus solely on judicial and electoral avenues for change, such an approach is at odds with a cornerstone ideal of the Founding: that the People make constitutional law, directly.
